The Unexpected Consequences of a Great Purchase

by TRU Staff on May 15, 2008

Ok, so I thought my MacBook acquisition would, among other things, help make me a more consistent blogger. Turns out, this was a sloppy way to think about things – the opposite turned out to be true, for one big reason:

I’m a big procrastinator.

Here’s how it works. When you’ve only got one laptop — one that’s technically owned by your employer — you usually feel pretty bad bringing it home just to write inane posts on your weblog. So you use the time available (lunch, dead moments, etc.) to get the job done. There’s a sense of immediacy. And, of course, on the rare occasions that you do bring the work-top home just to blog, well, you feel stupid if you don’t. So you do.

Now, though, I’ve got a perfectly good excuse not to think about the blog at work, since, hey, I’ve got that beautiful MacBook — or as I’ve started to call it, the Jesus Machine — at home waiting for me. No biggie. And at home, I don’t feel the same guilt about not posting, either. I mean, it’s not like I lugged the JM all the way home just to blog on it. No biggie.

I think you get the point. The next post will be a compilation of all the cool stuff I might’ve linked to or waxed poetic about during this past week if I weren’t such a horrifying person.
